Benefits and unemployment
Overall Derbyshire has a small proportion of the population aged 16-64 years claiming an out-of-work benefits when compared to England as a whole. Just 1.3% or 6,540 people in the county are currently included on the Claimant Count, slightly higher than for September 2016 (1.2%), but lower than the rate for England (1.9%). However, there are areas across the county that experience significantly higher levels of unemployment.
