Business and the labour market
Although small employers dominate the Derbyshire economy with 88.3% of local businesses employing less than 10 employees, the county is home to globally significant employers such as Toyota and Buxton Water owned by Nestle. A total of 290,850 people are employed by Derbyshire businesses. The county's economy has significant strengths in manufacturing with 17.4% employed in the sector. The level of public sector employment in the area is also relatively high at 17.5%.
