Healthy Lives

In the “Healthy Lives” domain, we delve into the broader social factors affecting health outcomes in Derbyshire. This domain specifically focuses on factors that directly impact individuals. It encompasses four subdomains, each providing valuable insights into various aspects of health.

The first subdomain, “behavioural risk factors,” looks at aspects like alcohol and drug misuse, healthy eating habits, physical activity levels, sedentary behaviour, sexually transmitted infections, and smoking prevalence. These factors are within individuals’ control and significantly influence their health. Next, we examine the health of children and young people in the “children and young people” subdomain. This includes early years development, school attendance, academic achievement, teenage pregnancy rates, and the engagement of young people in education, employment, and apprenticeships. The “physiological risk factors” subdomain focuses on indicators like high blood pressure, low birth weight babies, and the prevalence of overweight and obesity in both adults and children, offering insights into the physiological aspects of health. Finally, in the “protective measures” subdomain, we assess cancer screening attendance and child vaccination coverage, crucial preventive measures for maintaining good health.

This structured approach to understanding health factors helps inform policies and initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of individuals and communities across Derbyshire.
