Child Obesity
Child obesity is seen as one of the most challenging areas of Public Health. Obese children are at increased risk of various health problems and are more likely to become obese adults. Children aged 4-5 years (Reception) and 10-11 years (Year 6) have their height and weight measured annually via the National Child Measurement Program (NCMP). In 2016/17 the prevalence of obese reception children in Derbyshire was 10.0% and Year 6 obesity prevalence was 18.1% both significantly better than the England figure, there is however variation within the county.
